Our Upper School Classes
We Provide ISTD classes for our upper school students who are aged 5 years plus, and students are now expected to come into class by themselves. These classes are more structured on developing the student's spatial awareness, co-ordination, social skills and overall physical and mental development. Students will also be given the opportunity to take examinations in these grade which is not only good for them physically but also mentally of having a sense of achievement and having something to work towards. Students also work toward their IDR class awards throughout the year, achieving their badges and certificates.
The ISTD genre's we offer are Imperial Classical Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre. Even though these classes are more structured and are focussing more on the development of the students dance technique, working towards exams, we ensure our classes are always fun and encouraging.
Imperial Classical Ballet
Classical Ballet continues to be the start of a solid dance training whilst setting the basic foundation technique used for all other dance styles, and even if your child doesn't want to be a ballerina when they're older, it will help them to develop their basic dance technique for all of their other classes. It teaches, discipline, strength, muscular awareness, musicality and much, much more. The ISTD syllabus focuses on encouraging a sound basic technique and an understanding of musical interpretation to provide the essentials of pure classical training.

Tap Dancing
Tap dance is an exciting, percussive, rhythmical style of dance in which a dancer wears shoes fitted with heel and toe taps sounds out audible beats by rhythmically striking the floor.
Tap originated in the United States through the fusion of several ethnic percussive dances, primarily West African sacred and secular step dances (gioube) and Scottish, Irish, and English clog dances, hornpipes, and jigs.
It is also a theatrical art form and is often seen on screen and stage in musicals. Our ISTD Tap classes start from ages 5 years +
Modern Theatre
Modern dance is often seen on the stages of musical theatre productions and is known for its is known for its dynamic theatrical qualities.
The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style, which develops versatility and an introduction to other popular dance styles such as: jazz, lyrical, contemporary, commercial and many more. Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Modern Theatre also incorporates Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary dance styles into its examination syllabus.
